The Bakers Delight KidsCan Finger Bun campaign is back for its second year, giving Kiwis another opportunity to help New Zealand children living in hardship.

The fundraiser has received a significant boost this year with The Vodafone Warriors throwing their support behind the campaign. Jazz Tevaga, who plays as a hooker, and Sam Lisone, who is a prop, will both be baking, decorating and selling buns to customers at Bakers Delight Pukekohe on Thursday 2 May from 8am-9am.

The campaign will last for a week longer than last year, kicking off on 2 May and finishing on 29 May. The bakeries are hoping to raise at least $40,000 between them, a $10,000 increase on last year’s target. That would be enough to provide kids in need with 1000 raincoats, 800 pairs of shoes and 800 pairs of socks.

Last year, the brand smashed its fundraising goal by more than $15,000. By the end of the campaign, 20,000 KidsCan Finger Buns and 4,500 Mini Finger Bun 4-Packs had been snapped up. More than $45,000 went towards providing Kiwi kids in need with essential basics.

Thousands of iced Finger Buns covered with red and blue sprinkles will be sold throughout the brand’s bakeries. $1 from every KidsCan Finger Bun and $2 from every KidsCan Mini Finger Bun 4-Pack will be donated to KidsCan.

“We are so pleased to be getting behind KidsCan again this year,” says Derek Raux, Bakers Delight New Zealand Country Manager. “We’re stepping things up a level with a longer campaign period and higher fundraising target. We’re excited to have The Vodafone Warriors involved as well. We’re sure customers will be surprised and delighted to see them baking and selling buns in-store!”

“Our bakers and bakery owners really pulled together last year and managed to raise an incredible amount. I know they’re looking forward to getting started this year – they are all very involved in their communities and giving something back to local schools and children that need their support means an awful lot to them.”

KidsCan is a Charitable Trust that provides food, clothing and basic health items in schools to enable Kiwi kids living in hardship to reach their full potential. The organisation currently works with over 741 low decile schools across New Zealand.

“We’re so grateful to Bakers Delight New Zealand for their continued support – they’re so passionate about helping children living in hardship,” says Julie Chapman, KidsCan’s CEO and Founder. “These funds will be used to support some of the Kiwi kids who are waiting for help. We’ll be able to give them a cosy raincoat, solid shoes, and good food to fuel them for learning. It’s the start in life they deserve.”
